Last Rays

Early in fall, early in the evening, the sun says hello briefly, before taking leave for the night. A small airplane chugs along overhead, a few birds call it to order, while a child acts out after dinner, and the parents chuckle gently, this day is almost done. Here I sit, with some coffee for consolation as memories of summer chill. A hummingbird hovers near and reminds me: floating around is hard work, too. Time to go back inside…
